Bi Gu Shi Qi
An old Daoist method for promoting self-development
By Joachim Stuhlmacher
Some traditional methods of practice present a strong challenge to our ideas of natural processes. One of these is the Bi Gu Shi Qi, which can be translated roughly as »Not eat grain, eat Qi«. Ideally, in this method one eats and drinks nothing for days, weeks or even months. At the same time, however, the intensive practice stabilises and increases the Qi. On the basis of the few written documents available in German and his own experiences with Li Zhi-Chang, Lama Fofu and Xu Mingtang, Joachim Stuhlmacher gives an impression of the efficacy but also the necessary discipline of this method.
