Finding the natural rhythm of breath
Tips for breathing in Qigong und Taijiquan
By Foen Tjoeng Lie
Breathing is regarded as one of the three pillars of Qigong, and in Taijiquan too students often wonder about the “proper” way to breathe. The advice of Foen Tjoeng Lie is that although the rules for an individual exercise should be closely followed, nothing should be forced in this process. Instead, one should always proceed in line with one’s own level of ability. If the breathing remains relaxed and natural, then it will gradually adapt to the movement rhythm. Regarding special breathing techniques he recommends that these should first be learned separately from other exercises and only later be combined with other individually practiced sequences.
