In service of life – Taijiquan and psychotherapy
A review from various perspectives

By Gudrun Kapferer

It’s a constant subject of discussion: how can one combine Taijiquan and Qigong on the one hand with psychotherapy on the other? Gudrun Kapferer, who has taught Taijiquan for 20 years and also works as a psychotherapist, gives some thought to this issue. One important factor is that the Western psychotherapeutic approach is based on the division of body and soul, while the Chinese view is more holistic. But in addition to this, the role of the therapist is different to that of the teacher, and thus the methods of transfer are different as well.
