Through movement to stillness
Qigong and Walking
By Delphine Jungclaus
Walking and running are the two types of movement for which the human body is best designed our natural means of getting around and in themselves a good form of exercise in our frequently movement-starved daily lives. As Delphine Jungclaus shows, the effect of vigorous walking as similar to that of many Qigong exercises. She has created an integral concept from the two, in which walking provides more intensive movement, an energising of the body and a transition to stillness and well-being. Qigong exercises are used in support of this process, particularly in the subsequent resting phase, and help to focus attention and Qi inside the body.
