Becoming one with oneself and the music
Qigong with musicians
By Frank Hartmann
Although Qigong takes a primarily holistic approach, in certain cases it may be useful to focus first on certain symptoms or specific problems. A case in point is provided by musicians, who have to deal with special challenges in the course of their work. Strong mental and physical stress, asymmetric body postures and the resulting tensions are all typical of their situation. Frank Hartmann, who combines the experience of a musician and music teacher with that of a Qigong teacher, has developed a concept to compensate for this through Qigong. This primarily concerns four areas: breathing and musical creation, stress prevention, muscular tensions and playing technique, and physical stresses caused by the playing posture. The core of his work rests on the constant transformation of yin and yang and an approach to wu wei.
