The art of effortless power
Peter Ralston’s Cheng Hsin T'ui Shou.

By Klaus-Heinrich Peters

One of the newer developments in Taijiquan is the »Cheng Hsin« of Peter Ralston, known to many through his workshops in Europe or through his books. He has created his own system of practice in order to train more precisely the principles he has identified as
essential. Klaus-Heinrich Peters describes how one’s movement repertoire can be
extended in a »playful« manner, in particular through a wide range of Tuishou exercises. This work is always based on consistent yielding. Another essential element of interaction is leading, a process through which the yielder is able to control the attacker. Besides
technical skills, a further aim of Cheng Hsin is to explore one’s own self and to approach truth.
