From Jumping Jack to Blissful Walrus

Experiences with Taiji for children at a primary school. By Daniel Grolle-Moscovici

Taijiquan as a compulsory subject at school is something quite different to groups that are attended voluntarily by children or adults. This was the experience of Daniel Grolle-Moscovici during the 2001/2002 academic year, when he taught at a primary school that wished to have Taijiquan teaching for violence prevention. After massive initial difficulties he gradually developed a workable teaching structure based on a rope circle, together with various »cool« exercises that seized the attention of the children. As a »side effect« the children were able to improve their coordination skills and learn how to physically interact with each other in a more sensitive manner.
