Quo vadis, Qigong?

Commentary on the current trend to standardisation in Qigong. By Helmut Oberlack

Various developments within the »Qigong scene« in Germany are currently causing some unrest and also dissatisfaction. The chief issue is that of training standards, recognition guidelines and suchlike. As there are no generally binding guidelines, various institutions are starting to create them for themselves, or are commissioning others to create them. Taking the Deutsche Angestellten Krankenkasse (German Employees’ Health Insurance Company), the Volkshochschulverband (Association of Adult Education Institutes) and the Deutscher Sportbund (German Sports Association) as examples, Helmut Oberlack demonstrates how such aims can be formulated and put into practice. In order to prevent this leading to exclusions within the broad variety of Qigong types, he advocates the creation of an umbrella organisation for German Qigong teachers to promote the interests of all Qigong practitioners.
