Selfawareness and Social Competence
Uses of Qigong Dancing in Psychotherapy. By Sabine Ecker
In the Taijiquan & Qigong Jounal, edition 1/2001, Dietlind Zimmermann presented Qigong Dancing, developed by Gertrud Schröder/Long Ping. Sabine Ecker, herself a Qigong Dancing teacher, has explored psychotherapeutic uses and effects of this new method in her own work environment. The animal exercises, going back to the Chinese doctor Hua Tuo, as well as their continuation in free movement and interaction exercises, offer a wide field for confrontation with personal experience, traumas and behaviour patterns. Bear, crane, tiger and snake stand for a multitude of different possibilities to express oneself, to shape ones life and to get into contact with other people. As Qigong Dancing - in the same way as similar practices - initiates profound processes, prudent and conscientious teaching is necessary not only in a psychotherapeutic context.
