The three Pillars of Qigong
By Foen Tjoeng Lie

The training of body, breathing and mind is the basics of all Qigong exercises. The aim determines which method is used. Without correct posture and movement the body cannot relax according the way you want him to, breathing and qi flow are restricted and the movements cannot fulfill their purpose. While the postures are generally similar, the implementation of the movements may vary a lot. This depends on, for example, whether the emphasis is on gentle inner force or on hard outside force. With different breathing techniques qi is being received and stored in the body. Further the breathing can be used to support the movements or to regulate the emotions. Inner peace and mental awareness can be considered the basis and goal of Qigong.
