How does Health Develop?

The Model of »Salutogenese« Describes Tasks for Qigong and Taijiquan
By Christian Auerbach

»Driving out what is harmful and supporting that which strengthens« is a well-known theme of Qigong. When looking for arguments why Qigong can be useful to our healthcare system, stress is often put on the »driving out what is harmful« and the healing results of medicinal Qigong in particular. But Christian Auerbach argues in favour of a stronger recognition of the health promoting aspects. In doing so, he makes use of the model of »Salutogenese«, which investigates and presents the ability within man to organise and help himself. According to Aaron Antonovsky, one of the founders of this science, the focal point of the above named resources of resistance, is a sense of coherence, which gives man faith in himself, in the meaning of life and his salutogenetic resources. The wide wealth of experience of Qigong plainly offers itself as support in this field.
